God's Offcuts
With these images I have imagined a god, or creator, in their studio, making the flowers for the earth’s landscapes. In all design and creativity there are mistakes: in the process of creating a rose or a tulip, perhaps the paints and colours all run into each other, and these images are those results.
There is an irony in the title as the word ‘offcuts’ implies a waste or unwanted material, while these flower images are in fact incredibly beautiful. However, the title suits the process of the making, as within a few minutes of the photo being taken, the paint actually destroys the petals, making the flowers only fit to be discarded: the photos thus capture a fleeting beauty.
